RawTherapee is a modern program, and as such should work with modern hardware. This is especially true if you are using high resolution files. It has some memory-intensive filters, which means you'll need to know a few things to avoid memory issues.
These issues, which usually manifest themselves in a program of this kind, are more apparent if you're running a 32-bit version of Windows and have 2GB of RAM or less.
At least 4GB of RAM is recommended. As a general rule, you should avoid envelopes with too many photos and try not to have more than 100 photos per envelope.
