MicSwitch is a simple, free application that allows you to mute your computer's microphone by specifying a hotkey that will affect any program that uses your microphone.
The way to use it is very simple. After downloading the app, install and run MicSwitch. From there, specify the key to mute and unmute your microphone.
However, once you've set the key to your liking you'll need to minimize the application window for it to work. On your computer screen you will now see the icon of your microphone and its status, depending on whether it is activated or not.
