Hibernation is the process of saving the contents of memory to the hard disk to allow your computer to shut down completely.
This allows your computer to start faster, hibernation is enabled by default, and reserves part of your disk for its file, the "hiberfil.sys" file.
At any time, you can wake up your computer to resume from hibernation and continue working where you left off.
If you want to free up space on your disk, you can disable hibernation if you rarely use the feature.
So, the main reason you might want to disable hibernation on your computer is if you really need those extra features on your hard drive.
In fact, if you are using SSD for your Windows 11 or 10 PC, it is better to disable hibernation to save your SSD's life time.
Whenever the operating system hibernates, it writes the contents of RAM to hiberfil. sys and then power off.
On systems with solid state drives, constantly writing to the hibernation file can be dangerous to the health of the SSD, because unlike regular hard drives, SSDs can retain a limited number of writes before stopping or voiding the warranty.
That's why most modern laptops with SSDs have hibernation turned off by default.
