Your phone contains your entire life - photos, messages, passwords, bank details. Before you sell or give it away, you should securely erase ALL of this information so it doesn't fall into the wrong hands.
In this article we will show you step by step how to protect your privacy and completely delete all your personal information, without having to be a tech expert!
1 Back Up Your Important Files
Before you delete everything, keep what you want! Make a backup so you don't lose your favorite photos and important contacts.
For Android phones
- Open them Settings on your mobile
- Find it Google and press
- Select - Επιλέξτε Create a backup
- Click Create a copy now and wait for it to finish
For iPhone
- Open them Settings on your iPhone
- Tap your name at the top of the screen
- Select - Επιλέξτε iCloud
- Click iCloud Backup and after Create a copy now
2 Log Out of All Your Accounts
This is the most important step! The phone must "forget" all your accounts (Google, Apple, Facebook, etc.) so that no one else can use them.
For Android phones
- Go to Settings and find Accounts
- Select - Επιλέξτε Google and remove your account
- Turn it off "Find my device" from Google → Security
For iPhone
- Enter at Settings and click your name
- Click Log Out to sign out of your Apple ID
- Turn it off "Find My iPhone" mode
If you skip this step, the phone may be "locked" and the buyer will not be able to use it!
3 Erase All Data (Factory Reset)
Now comes the "big sweep"! We'll delete everything and make the phone like new from the store.
For Android phones
- Open them Settings → System
- Find her Reset options
- Select - Επιλέξτε Delete all data
- Click Phone reset and confirm
For iPhone
- Pate Settings → General information
- Find Transfer or Restore iPhone
- Select - Επιλέξτε Delete all content and settings
- Enter your password and confirm.
4 Don't Forget the Memory Card!
If your phone has a memory card (SD card), remove it or delete everything from it!
- Either take out the card and keep it to yourself
- Either you go Settings → Storeroom → SD card and select Deletion
5 Double Check for Extra Security
To be 100% sure that your data cannot be recovered by special programs:
- Download an app like Shreddit (Android) or iShredder (iPhone)
- Or fill the phone with irrelevant videos/photos and delete them again
- This "overwrites" your old data and makes it impossible to recover.
The more times you "overwrite" the data, the more secure you are. Once is enough for the average user, but 2-3 times is ideal for absolute security!
6 Final Check Before Sale
Before giving the phone to the buyer, do these checks:
- The phone opens without asking for a password or account
- No photos, contacts, or messages.
- The screen shows the initial installation menu.
- Clean the outside of the phone
- Find the box and charger (if you have them)
Following these 6 simple steps, protect your privacy and avoid risks like identity theft. Don't gamble with the security of your personal information - a few minutes of extra attention can save you from big problems!
When you buy your new phone, set strong passwords from day one and enable two-factor authentication on your accounts. Prevention is always better than cure!
