Forget the spec sheets — this is what happens when you actually live with each setup.

A side-by-side reliability test between a mesh system and a traditional single-router setup

Your video call freezes for exactly three seconds every time you walk from the kitchen into the home office. It's not your imagination, and it's probably not your internet provider either. In most cases, the real culprit is your Wi-Fi setup.

To find out whether a mesh Wi-Fi system is actually worth the extra money, I spent several months testing two nearly identical homes. One relied on a single high-end router, while the other used a modern mesh network. Instead of focusing on marketing claims or theoretical speeds, I tracked real-world performance: signal strength, dropped packets, buffering, roaming between rooms, and the number of times someone complained that "the Wi-Fi is down again."
